日本のアルザス・ロレーヌとも呼ばれる、秋田県鹿角地域に生まれる。
記憶や自然に内在する静けさを言葉でたぐり寄せ、詩作と朗読の両面から表現している。
詩集『銘度利加 Metrika』（思潮社）で第68回H氏賞を受賞。
タイトルの “Metrika” は、明治期に日本へ根づいた正教会の受洗者名簿に由来し、著者の生まれ育った風土に同じく生きた、名もなき人々への鎮魂と祈り、記憶と忘却のあわいを問う。
続く詩集『あさつなぎ』（Le Petit Nomade）は、時間と場所を浅く繋ぐ古い地名から静かに歩き出し、現実の災禍を予感させる “ここで失われたもの／これから失われていくもの” に立ち会いながら、言葉と沈黙の関係を深く掘り下げる。
哲学者・宇野邦一による考察では「詩のトポスをめぐる実験的な構築」と評され、自然・死・沈黙をめぐる親密な詩の形が論じられた。
詩のほか、ナレーション、映画脚本、番組台本、エッセイなど、言葉と声を軸に幅広いクリエイションを行うほか、公共図書館での定例朗読会「せせらぎのおと」を企画・進行し、一般の利用者が詩を身近に味わう時間をひらいている。記録はポッドキャストなどでも公開。
土地の声や風景、記憶と結び合いながら、自らの韻律と詩の言葉をさぐっている。

Tohko Toda
Born in the Kazuno region of Akita Prefecture, often referred to as the Alsace–Lorraine of Japan.
Toda’s poetry traces the stillness inherent in memory and nature, weaving language from silence through both writing and voice.
Her first collection, Metrika (Shichōsha), which received the 68th H Prize, takes its title from the baptismal register of the Orthodox Church introduced to Japan in the Meiji era.
The book reflects on remembrance and oblivion, a requiem for nameless lives once bound to the same northern landscape.
Her second collection, Asatsunagi (Le Petit Nomade, 2024), named after an old place signifying “a shallow path that connects,” begins in quiet motion and confronts the tension between words and silence amid the premonition of real-world calamity.
A philosopher who also engages in various forms of criticism Kunichi Uno described it as “an experimental architecture of poetic topos,” noting its rare intimacy with nature, death, and stillness.
Beyond poetry, Toda works across narration, film scripts, broadcasting, and essays—exploring expressions that bridge words, voice, and image.
She also curates and hosts a monthly public reading series at a city library, offering open spaces where people can gently encounter poetry; recordings are available as podcasts.
Her work seeks to connect sound, landscape, and memory, pursuing a personal rhythm of poetic language that resonates close to life.
